Penelope is a 8-year-old Pitbull Mix in Smithtown , NY, who needs $2,000 for CT scan

I had the pleasure of rescuing Penelope in October of 2017. She was deemed a danger to the community due to unresponsive owners and neglect. She had been in the shelter for two years and when I first saw her I knew I had to take her home. She is my only dog and I know that I rescued her but at the time I was going through a tremendously difficult time in my life and adopting her truly saved me.

Penelope is the most legally go lucky dog you will ever meet; she wags her tail while she’s eating, she greets everyone she meets with a kiss and a smile and her favorite activity is holding hands with anyone that will grab her paw. As long as she is around people, she is happy. I recently took her upstate for Christmas and my cousins took turns sitting in her playpen with her. Everyone loves her.

Penelope is a goofy loving girl who upon first sight may come across as intimidating but as soon as you get to know her you realize what a mush she is. She loves going on walks but at times she will decide it’s over and just lay down and refuse to get up (I have to bring treats to get her hoe sometimes). Penelope appears fearless until a garbage bag or vacuum appears, she will hide until it’s over

At Thanksgiving I started to notice that Penelope was holding up her back left leg, refusing to get up, and crying when I touched her. I took her to the ER where they diagnosed her with a torn ACL, Spinal Stenosis, and nerve degeneration. X-rays showed the torn ACL and her surgeon informed me that Penelope needs a CT because she may have a tumor on her spine, disc herniation, or possible stroke.

Just for medication, blood work and XRays I have spent over a grand and the estimate for her CT scan is between 2-3 grand; not including the cost of surgery and rehab. I am on my own and I just want Penelope to have the best quality of life possible again. Help me help her.
