About this campaign
After losing both of our geriatric dogs in the fall of 2017, my husband and I were devastated and heartbroken. I knew we wanted to adopt but I was casually looking with the plan to adopt in the spring. In November, a fluffy little white and black pup showed up on a local shelters FB page. The next day, I packed my youngest in the car and off we went to meet little “Clarice”.
We brought home that little pup that day and changed her name to Penny Lane. She mended our broken hearts, played endlessly with our toddler, chasing toys and vying for the best spot on moms lap for nap time, chased my son while he played soccer and fetched his baseballs while hitting off the tee. She’s given us so many zoomies and boops and air licks and has made each day brighter by being ours.
Penny is special in so many ways. First of all, her underbitten, toothy smile can make even the darkest day bright. She communicates through little grunts and holds us all accountable for the treats that she so much deserves. She’s sassy and a bit of a “bitty old lady” but she gives the best hugs and knows just when a snuggle is needed. And she loves tummy scratches!!!!
Penny has been having intermittent seizures for about 4 years. Her vet said it wasn’t often enough for pharmaceutical intervention. Then, last night out of the blue, she seemed to be weak in her back legs. Today, she woke up with no function in both back legs and in discomfort. The Vet ER has diagnosed her with a slipped disc and surgery is imminent.
Due to the $10,000-$12,000 projected cost of surgery, it is creating a financial hardship for us. We have 2 households to uphold and 3 children. They said that with quick surgery, she has a 90% chance to regain function, without, she could never walk again.
