About this campaign

Penny’s past was filled with unimaginable horror. Her front elbow and leg were badly broken, but never tended to. She now suffers every day with a painful permanent limp and degenerative arthritis. Thankfully, Penny managed to escape her tormenters by limping across a field toward safety. After being found by a Good Samaritan, she was surrendered to a shelter and then transferred to our Sanctuary.

Despite the abuse she suffered, Penny is sweet and kind and forgiving. She gets along well with all the other hounds at the Sanctuary, has a hearty appetite, isn't picky about eating her allergy diet food, likes to chew on toy bones and has become quite attached to her caretakers. Penny's soulful eyes, however, still hint at her former abuse and there are times when she seems very sad.

Penny serves as a role model for all who have endured abuse. Somehow, she escaped with multiple, painful health issues and survived! She seems to know that she's in a good place now, and even though some of her treatments may be hard on her, she realizes that not all humans are bad, and accepts help and tasty treats willingly.

Despite completing the AHS heartworm treatment protocol, Penny continues to have heartworm and is still symptomatic. She needs to start a second round of heartworm injections. Penny also has serious and widespread food allergies and cannot eat any animal proteins. A special diet along with allergy shots are a must to keep her from scratching herself raw.

While we've raised some funds already, we do need help now with the vet bills for Penny’s second round of heartworm treatments and for her skin condition. As a registered non-profit, we rely on donations to pay for vet care. Please give Penny the future she deserves!
