Peony is the kind of cat who makes friends instantly. He adores people, gets along beautifully with other animals, and is always ready to lean in for pets and affection. His gentle personality and sweet nature have earned him a special nickname at Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation — “the lover boy.” But right now, Peony isn’t feeling like himself.

Recent bloodwork revealed abnormal liver enzymes, raising concern for possible liver disease. Shortly after, Peony developed jaundice (icterus), a serious condition that causes yellowing of the skin and eyes and signals that his liver is struggling. This is a critical moment for Peony, and he needs ongoing treatment to give his body the best chance to recover.

Peony is currently receiving daily steroids and IV fluids to support his liver and help his body heal. These treatments are essential, but they come with mounting veterinary costs. His care requires close monitoring, medications, fluids, and follow-up testing to track his progress and adjust treatment as needed.

Despite everything, Peony remains the affectionate, loving cat everyone knows. He still leans into gentle pets and seeks comfort from the people caring for him. He’s fighting — and we want to give him every chance to win.
