From Stray to Survivor: Help Pepe Heal and Find a Forever Home

Meet Pepe, a 5-year-old Chihuahua with a heart full of resilience and a will to survive against all odds. Just weeks ago, Pepe was picked up as a stray by animal control, his life hanging by a thread. With injuries that could have been fatal, it was only by a stroke of fate—and the quick action of a dedicated volunteer—that Pepe’s story didn’t end there.

At the very last moment before the shelter closed, an urgent plea went out to save this sweet dog from euthanasia. Without hesitation, ThisIsHouston stepped in and a kind volunteer rushed Pepe to the ER, where he underwent urgent surgery to repair a severe laceration near his groin. But his suffering didn’t stop with surgery. Pepe had also suffered a concussion and was covered in painful puncture wounds, requiring days of intensive care.

Pepe’s journey is one of survival, but it’s far from over. He still needs ongoing medical care, including daily bandage changes and monitoring to ensure his wounds heal properly. His ER bill alone has already reached $5,000, a tremendous financial burden.

But here’s the thing—Pepe is a fighter. Despite everything he’s been through, he still greets every day with a gentle and resilient spirit. He deserves the chance to heal, recover, and, one day, find a loving forever home. With your help, we can make that dream a reality.

Update 12/28/24:
Pepe had a big day yesterday! He got neutered and had a dental as well. He had severe dental disease when ThisIsHouston got him and needed 10 teeth pulled. Poor guy only has two incisors left, but he’s doing great and is back to normal today. He likes to make rounds around the perimeter of his backyard, and he’s back to doing handstand pees; he’s pretty talented 😆

He gets along with all the dogs in his foster home, and doesn’t seem scared of bigger dogs which is a good sign considering he was attacked by another animal. His foster mom says he’s such an easy dog. Pepe has come a long way and is now waiting for his perfect forever home!
