Popeye once had a home. But when he developed a painful mouth infection, his family abandoned him. They left him in a pink basket, too afraid to move or even meow. He arrived at ACF Animal Rescue tense with fear, and his eyes scanning the room as if searching for the people who left him behind.

He didn’t cry. He didn’t hiss. He just sat quietly, confused, hurting, and heartbroken. The infection in his mouth made eating painful, and the heartbreak of abandonment was written all over his face. But even in his silence, Popeye showed us he wanted to trust again.

Now, he’s receiving treatment for his infection, and slowly, Popeye is starting to feel safe. He’s beginning to lean into gentle pets, to rest without fear, and to believe that not all humans will give up on him. But he still has a long way to go. He needs ongoing medical care, soft food, and time to fully heal both physically and emotionally.
