About this campaign

Pru is just 11 weeks old. In November 2025, when she and her three siblings were only about 4½ weeks old, Akira Animal Rescue stepped in to save them from entering the shelter system. They had no pledges, no networking, and no safety net—but they needed help, and we refused to turn our backs on them.

Pru quickly grew into a sweet, intelligent, curious, and adventurous little girl—always eager to explore and ready for fun. But then everything changed. Pru suddenly became quiet and withdrawn. She hid, softly moaned, and wouldn’t get up when called. Her eyes appeared dazed, and she began drifting in and out of consciousness. We knew immediately that something was very wrong.

We rushed her for emergency care. Based on her symptoms, the veterinary team determined that Pru was experiencing toxicosis—a form of poisoning. While the exact source couldn’t be identified, it may have been something as simple and frightening as a mushroom or weed in the yard after she briefly climbed out of her pen that morning.

Diagnostic testing was performed, and thankfully her organs and vitals were normal. Parvo was ruled out. The only abnormal finding was anemia, which likely made her more vulnerable and less able to fight off whatever toxin she encountered. Because of the severity of her symptoms, the only way to keep Pru safe was emergency hospitalization so she could be closely monitored and given intensive supportive care. Those first critical hours truly meant the difference between life and death. Pru was hospitalized for 32 hours, and thanks to quick action and round-the-clock care, she has made a full recovery—aside from becoming a bit of a velcro pup who never wants to leave our side.

When Akira Animal Rescue saved Pru and her siblings, we did so because we believe every life matters—regardless of how much money is attached to it. We never decide who deserves help based on donations or visibility. But emergencies like this come at a cost we cannot shoulder alone.

Pru deserved the chance to recover, to grow up, and to rejoin her siblings—and because of your support, she got that chance. Please consider donating so finances are never the reason a puppy loses her life. Your support ensures that when the next emergency happens, we can say “yes” again.
