About this campaign

Punzzy, a 4-year-old retired racehorce, is currently facing a medical emergency.

He has sustained a severe injury to his back leg, which has been torn open and requires immediate veterinary care. An emergency vet is on the way, and the full extent of his injuries is still being assessed.

Injuries like this are not only painful but can quickly become life-threatening without prompt treatment. Punzzy will likely need urgent wound care, possible surgical intervention, medications, and ongoing monitoring to prevent infection and support healing.

Right now, the priority is stabilizing him and giving him the best chance at recovery.

Emergency cases like this are sudden and costly, but they are moments where immediate action makes all the difference.

Funds from this campaign will go toward:

• Emergency veterinary care and treatment

• Wound management and possible surgical repair

• Medications, antibiotics, and pain management

• Ongoing care and recovery support

Punzzy needs help right now. Every donation will directly support his care and give him a chance to heal from this traumatic injury.

4/30/26 Update: Punzzy Suffers Additional Injuries

We wanted to share a serious update on Punzzy.

Following his initial injury, an unauthorized incident occurred in which Punzzy was removed from his secured pasture. During this event, he sustained additional injuries to his opposite hind leg.

Punzzy is now safe and under close veterinary supervision at Benchmark Animal Clinic in Perkins, Oklahoma, where he is receiving ongoing treatment, pain management, and wound care.

This unexpected setback has significantly increased the level of care he requires. In addition to treating both injuries, he must now remain under veterinary supervision to ensure proper healing and prevent further complications.

His medical expenses are rising quickly, with current estimates now expected to reach $2,000 or more.

Despite everything, Punzzy is receiving the care he needs and continues to fight through this difficult recovery.

We are incredibly grateful for the support that has brought him this far. If you are able to help, your continued support will directly impact his ability to heal safely and fully.

5/12/26 Update: Help Punzzy Keep Healing

Punzzy continues to make steady progress in the care of Gypsy Heritage Horse Rescue & Rehabilitation. His hind legs are beginning to heal, although they still have a long way to go and remain very raw in appearance.

The good news is that his veterinary team is confident there does not appear to be any major permanent damage, which is incredibly encouraging for his recovery.

Punzzy is receiving lots of love, attention, and ongoing care as he heals, and everyone is hopeful he may be able to return home sooner than expected, possibly before the end of May.

Thank you to everyone continuing to support Punzzy on his healing journey.

5/19/26 Update: Punzzy is home but therapy continues

Punzzy returned home Friday evening. Unfortunately, he has been very mentally scarred by the event and now requires special handling. This has also undone all of the training he has under gone AND the attack caused his adopter to back out of the adoption. PHYSICALLY his legs will take a long time to regrow the hair and he IS physically clear to restart work, but his fear and anxiety are preventing it, for now. In order to keep Punzzy from attacking the horses in the neighboring pasture, we are having to install electric fencing. We are hopeful that given time, love, kindness and retraining, Punzzy will come full circle. Until then, will YOU help us help Punzzy?

6/30/26 Update: Long over due

Hi everyone! I apologise for the long overdue update. Punzzy has fully healed physically and is now starting on his mental recovery. We are hoping he will be all clear soon.
