About this campaign

We adopted Rafael from a shelter about 2 years ago and he quickly became part of our family. He is a very loving senior cat who is in need of help. Three months ago he stopped eating dry food and treats. He also was been avoiding his water bowl. Then he even started to avoid wet food. So I took him to the vet.

Rafael was diagnosed with stomatitis, a painful inflammation of the soft tissue inside his mouth. The vet said whole-mouth extraction was the only treatment she’d seen that offered a chance of fixing the problem. It took 2 surgeries to remove all his teeth and now it has been two months and he has developed an infection in his jaw bone and requires a third surgery that I can not afford.

In the short time Rafael has been with us he has enriched our lives beyond measure. My anxiety and depression have vastly improved and even my son's behavior issues have lessened. We love him very much, but he is unable to eat enough food without pain to maintain an ideal weight, he has lost over 2lbs. I really do not want to euthanize him, not when there is another option.

I am in dire financial straits. Living off of my son's social security benefits and what little I earn from a part-time job. I have no savings and maxed out my Care Credit card on the previous 2 surgeries. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please consider giving today!
