About this campaign

Raider is just five years old, and he's fighting for his life. Without chemotherapy and radiation treatment, he won't live longer than just a few months. That would be devastating for his family, especially his human mom, Mary-Caitlin S.

She tells Waggle her husband is in the military. When he's deployed, Raider is always there for her. "Raider has been my rock and guard dog every time my husband is away. I couldn't have survived those times without him," she says.

Mary-Caitlin and her husband adopted Raider when he was just three months old. He has been their faithful and loving companion ever since. "We will never forget the day we adopted him. We could not walk away. We just knew he was the puppy to complete our family," Mary-Caitlin says. "He had paws the size of my palm, already weighed a whopping 30+ pounds, and his personality was like no other. Fast forward five years -- his personality hasn't changed a bit; even though he is sick, he's still a pup at heart."

Now Raider weighs a whopping 125 pounds and is still a puppy at heart. He is playful and loves to swim, destroy cardboard boxes, and protect his family.

When Mary-Caitlin got the news Raider had a large mast cell tumor, they had it removed immediately. "The veterinarian was able to remove a portion, but not the entire tumor. We were referred to VCA Capital Area Veterinary Specialists, where we did further diagnostic testing. Raider will only have a few months without further treatment. He needs radiation and chemotherapy to survive his cancer," Mary-Caitlin says.

Right now, Mary-Caitlin and her husband can't afford the treatment. They're panicking and devastated. "We have already spent a large amount of money on surgery and other diagnostic tests," she says. "We are about to have our first baby, and I will be out of work without pay for maternity leave. Additional funding will save Raider's life and make him more comfortable."

Mary-Caitlin is hoping Waggle's pet lovers will help pay it forward and give to Raider's campaign so he can continue to be a part of their family. "Raider is so unique," she says. "He's a gentle giant, and we have always said he will be the best big brother to our baby one day. We can't imagine not having Raider around to love our new baby. Our dogs are such a huge part of our tiny family, and a world without him would be devastating."
