Red is a six year old Red-nosed Pit that is the gentlest soul I have ever encountered. She is friendly with cats, children and other dogs. She is the belle of the ball at our local doggy daycare, Happy Talis, where everyone loves her and claims she is perfect. She greets me every morning with a smile and is wagging that tail when I get home from work.

She insists on being near me. That includes sleeping, walking, going outside to play or simply cuddling me when I'm having a bad day. She loves kids and sometimes forgets that she is little stronger and bigger than the smaller ones. It's all in good fun because she only wants to lick you to death. She has a great personality that makes you want to love her.

About six months ago, my partner of 17 years decided they didn't want to be a family anymore and abandoned our home, our animals, our life. I was in shock and couldn't function. Every day and night I cried and begged them to return and Red stayed by my side the entire time...literally. She was the reason I would get up. I had to take care of her and our other pets. I had to take care of me.

A few months before my partner left, Red hurt her left hind leg. We thought it was the same as the right leg which was just a tear in the ligament and would heal on its own. This was different. The cruciate ligament was completely torn and needed surgery to repair it. After consulting with Tuskegee Small Animal Hospital, we decided tnat surgery was the only option for a full recover.

After my partner left, I was left with the bills for the home and all costs for the pets. I was taking care of her cockatiel, 3 cats abandoned by her sister and 2 for her nephew who was homeless. I couldn't keep up on my small salary and receive NO help from her on any of
