Red is a 7 month old Mix-Breed in Tracy, CA, who needs $2,000 for Heart surgery.

Red was found one afternoon quietly following a neighbor down the street during her daily walk. Unsure where he belonged, she contacted People for Pets Rescue. They went out to take photos and post him as a found dog, hoping someone was looking for him.

As part of routine care, they brought Red to the veterinarian for neutering, vaccinations, and a microchip. That appointment changed everything. During his exam, the vet discovered that Red had a severe heart murmur. What began as a simple effort to help a lost puppy quickly became a fight for his life.

Red was referred to a cardiologist and placed into a foster home with four other dogs, where he immediately showed just how gentle and loving he is. The cardiologist delivered hopeful news: Red’s condition can be corrected with a relatively straightforward procedure, one that would allow him to live a full, happy life for many years to come. Knowing that this opportunity existed, there was no question—they had to give Red that chance.

So they scheduled an appointment at UC Davis for further evaluation and to move forward with this life-saving plan.

Red is truly one of a kind. At just seven months old, he is the sweetest little snugglebug, always wagging his tiny tail, happiest when curled up in a lap. He greets everyone with joy and seems to smile nonstop. Everyone who meets Red falls in love with him instantly. Once his heart is healed, we know he will quickly find the loving forever home he deserves.

However, Red’s story comes with significant challenges. He is still just a puppy, and this surgery is necessary for him to survive—the total cost of which is estimated to be in the thousands. For a small rescue, this is an enormous financial strain.

1/26/26 Update

After being postponed three times, Red's heart procedure finally happened on the 14th of this month. He's currently in rehab and a recuperation state. He needs to stay sedated for about another week and just had his sutures taken out. All went very well and the surgeon was extremely pleased. We are so grateful for your continued support.
