About this campaign
Remy and I met when I fostered him in the Spring of 2022 and I foster failed in May 2022. Remy came into the shelter with extensive scars, a damaged ear, and missing a majority of his teeth and that is was drew me to him. I couldn't believe no one claimed his as a stray! I want to give him the best medical care available since he clearly had a hard life early on.
Remy is known for his surprisingly deep bark and the way he will nudge you relentlessly when he wants pets. He is always up for a car ride! Even if it just for a ride around Home Depot in a shopping cart, his tiny tail wiggles the whole time. Some of his favorite pastimes are solving a doggy puzzle, hanging out in the garden, and finding someone's lap to snuggle on.
Remy has a habit of making himself a pillow with his stuffed toys and it makes me giggle every time. His bed is probably 3 sizes too big for him, but he loves to burrow into it and will often take himself back upstairs if it's too "early" for him. Recently, the cat has started sleeping in his bed and the sad/longing look he gives is hilarious & heartbreaking at the same time.
In November 2022, Remy suddenly developed a mass in his groin which turned out to be cancer. He's had 2 surgeries and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, but his oncologist thinks radiation is the best option for him. Remy is scheduled for a consult with a oncology hospital that has radiation therapy, but the sticker shock of $6-10k is a challenge.
$6-10k for treatment is intimidating for most people. I paid $7k for my other dog in June '22 and insurance can only cover a very small amount. I've helped so many other pets through donations and fostering, I'm hoping the favor can be returned.
