About this campaign

Rex has owners who were unable to afford his emergency care

Rex is a 2 year old dachshund who was outside playing in his own yard when neighboring dogs attacked him, causing grave injuries. His owners rushed him to the ER. Rex had sustained a bite to his abdomen, which had allowed his intestines to come out, and a bite to his rib cage with unknown internal damage. The owners did not have the money for his emergency care. When they asked the owner of the dogs who had attacked Rex, the neighbor replied, "what am I supposed to do, shoot my dogs?". He was unwilling to contribute towards the emergency cost. Without the funds to cover a down payment, the owners were going to have to euthanize Rex. A One by One Animal Advocates volunteer was in the ER waiting room with her personal dog, heard their story, and reached out to see if we could help. We typically do not cover dogs who have an owner - our focus is stray or shelter animals - but we could not bear to see Rex euthanized. He needed emergency surgery, antibiotics, pain meds. We agreed to cover the cost, but need to raise the $2559 before 7:30am tomorrow or Rex will not be released. He will then have to go to our regular vet for continued care. He has a drain, on pain meds, IV fluids, and antibiotics. His condition is still guarded. We are a 501c3 who operates primarily from donations, so Waggle's help is greatly appreciated!
