About this campaign

My husband and I ended up with River when we saw her in a Craigslist ad for $80. We had just moved in together in our first apartment, and he had always wanted a pet. We had my dog, Leeloo, but he never had his own pet. When we saw little River, we knew we had to have her. Then, later that day when we had first seen her, the listing was updated to FREE. It was a no-brainer.

River has been in our lives for 8 wonderful years now. Unfortunately, she has severe dental issues and needs a tooth removed before it causes further distress for her. She is also experiencing an allergic reaction to a dry food, so she is quite uncomfortable in her own skin. At one point she had stopped eating because of her tooth pain, and it was horrible to see her lose weight.

River is so special to us. She and our Labrador retriever, Leeloo (who I've had for 10 years), are best friends. They sleep together, play, and annoy each other like the sisters they are. River demands attention and gets what she wants, because she's so cute. She is the softest cat I've ever pet, and holding her close after my top surgery was such a highlight of my life.

I am a disabled transgender person, and my husband works hard, sometimes 50 hours a week to make ends meet. An entire paycheck of his goes to rent, and the other goes to our car payment. Knowing our babies can't be taken care of immediately, breaks our hearts.
