About this campaign

I found my sweet pit bull Rome about 2 years ago. She was a stray I found abandoned near my home in North Carolina. She was clearly neglected and was extremely emaciated from being starved. I tried to find out who abandoned her but had no luck. I immediately took her to a vet and then brought her home with me to ensure she got the help she needed.

As soon as we got home it was obvious that Rome was so happy to have a home and she adapted immediately. She started gaining weight and getting healthy. She became friends with our other dogs and I quickly realized she loves everyone she meets...human or animal. She even became friends with the cats although she was hesitant at first.

Chylothorax is a rare condition where lymphatic fluid leaks between the lung and chest wall. She will not survive unless she has surgery. This happened right after Covid-19 when I was laid off from work and I have been struggling to come up with the $

About a year ago Rome started having trouble breathing and she seemed to be swollen . I took her to the vet right away. The vet ran tests and saw she was full of fluid in her chest & abdomen and she put her on antibiotics & steroids. She tapped her chest to drain the fluid but unfortunately it kept coming back. After a lot of testing & treatments the vet diagnosed her with Chylothorax.

Rome is such big baby. Although she’s a pit bull she is a gentle giant and she loves to cuddle and play. Especially with my moms dog which is a 6 pound Pomeranian. She seems to know she’s tiny and shes so gentle and protective of her. When Rome gets excited she runs in circles and it’s the cutest thing ever.
