Saved from the Streets: Donate for Life-Saving Surgery!

Rosalie was spotted on the streets, helpless and in agony from a severe rectal prolapse. She had been stranded in the same spot for days, with no one stepping up to help her. As her condition worsened, animal control was finally called, and she was rushed to safety.

At the shelter, Rosalie underwent a purse-string procedure to repair her prolapse. But when ThisIsHouston picked her up on Saturday, her condition took a dramatic turn. The purse string was removed, and she immediately began prolapsing again—this time actively bleeding as her condition rapidly deteriorated.

Racing against time, ThisIsHouston sent Rosalie straight to Blue Pearl ER. The estimated cost of her care was staggering: $8,000–$12,000, but they couldn't let her down. Rosalie is just 4 years old, and her spirit remains unbroken despite her suffering. She’s an absolute sweetheart, trusting and affectionate, even after everything she’s endured.

Update 12/9/24:
Rosalie received her second surgery — she had a colopexy and a second purse-string procedure to correct her rectal prolapse. The purse-string will be left for two weeks to give everything the best chance to heal. She did need a blood transfusion due to hookworm anemia, but she handled the transfusion and surgery well.

She had some serous fluid within her abdomen which was likely a result of severe inflammation from her prolapse complications. She was started on some antibiotics in case it turns into an infection. They also noticed some small nodules on the surface of her colon. They suspect it’s probably from inflammation but going to submit some samples for biopsies just in case. She’s straining with some diarrhea today so she’ll stay at least another day.

Her care is costly, but she’s worth every cent. And we’re so thankful for all of you helping us provide her with the best possible care. THANK YOU!

Update 1/9/25:
After a $11,114.45 ER bill, Rosalie was discharged into foster care where she’s been doing great! She hasn’t prolapsed since and there have been no issues at all. We’re so glad that’s all behind her. She’s still working to put some weight on and will be starting heartworm treatment soon.

An expensive girl, but worth it!

Update 3/4/25:
Rosalie was found in December with a rectal prolapse that needed surgery- twice! She has fully recovered and just completed heartworm treatment to get rid of those pesky worms! She's now waiting for her perfect forever home!
