About this campaign
Ruby is loved by adults and children alike, so it was important to us to find somewhere that centers human connection and neighborly love! We previously lived in an apartment complex filled with kids- who would often let themselves in just to pet the dogs! This is vastly different from the reservation from which Ruby was rescued, roaming the streets and not cared for by anyone in particular.
Ruby is the younger sibling- though not related- to Zoey, an addition to our pack for nearly five years, and at this point, one could not be without the other! Ruby’s lust for life and high energy has made Zoey come out of her shell and form a bond that is strong. Their love teaches me everyday- how I should love and how unconditional theirs is for me.
Ruby is a force of nature- never letting anything keep her down. Her autoimmune disorder does not define her, and you’d never know her strength just by looking at her. Her continued joy and boundless curiosity is my favorite part. This dog has never turned down a walk, hike or car ride- and it’s that enthusiasm that brings joy and a smile to my face. Her spirit has encouraged me to keep going.
Ruby was previously diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder (Pemphigus) back in December 2020. Some of the photos here show her condition at that time; she was frail, thin, and at death’s doorstep. However, within six months, recovered and now gets by with just two kinds of daily medications. Recently, again, the vets have found something wrong- a malignant mass that could have spread (cancer).
This is a huge ask, because cancer treatment can often continue even after the malignant mass is removed. The costs seem never ending and I struggle just to keep a roof over our heads, sometimes.
