About this campaign
Rudy’s life changed overnight when the only home he had ever known disappeared.
Although he was ear-tipped, Rudy was not a community cat. He belonged to a neighbor who moved away last summer and left him behind. Suddenly abandoned outdoors, Rudy became the target of relentless cruelty. Nearby residents terrorized him—letting dogs loose to chase him, shooting at him, and throwing fireworks whenever they saw him. Day after day, Rudy lived in fear.
By the time help arrived, Rudy was deeply traumatized. He was too frightened to enter a standard trap, and it took weeks and specialized equipment to finally get him to safety. When he was brought into care, his fear was overwhelming. Confined to a cage after everything he’d endured, Rudy panicked. He stopped eating, lost significant weight, drooled excessively, and showed clear signs of extreme stress.
Veterinary care revealed just how much suffering Rudy had been hiding. He required an extensive dental procedure with the removal of 11 painful teeth and was diagnosed with multiple parasites, including whipworm, hookworm, and coccidia. His body had been fighting for survival for far too long.
Following surgery, Rudy was placed into foster care, where he could finally decompress in a quiet, safe environment. Away from the chaos and cruelty, he is beginning the slow process of healing—both physically and emotionally. But his recovery is far from over.
Rudy’s medical care, diagnostics, surgery, parasite treatment, medications, and ongoing support come at a significant cost. As a nonprofit rescue, we rely entirely on donations to save cats like Rudy—cats who have been failed, abandoned, and abused through no fault of their own.
Rudy survived unimaginable cruelty. Now he needs our help to truly heal. Every donation helps cover the care that saved his life and supports his continued recovery in foster care. If you’re unable to donate, sharing Rudy’s story can make a life-changing difference. Together, we can give Rudy the safety, dignity, and chance at peace he was always denied.
3/7/26 Update
We’re happy to share that Rudy is healing really well.
After everything he endured before coming into rescue, it’s going to take time for him to feel safe around people—but he is slowly making progress. Rudy is still a very cautious boy, but he has begun allowing his foster to gently touch his head, which is a huge step forward for him.
Right now, Rudy needs to be able to see where a hand is at all times, and he isn’t comfortable with pets anywhere else yet—especially on his back.
If a hand moves out of his view, it’s still too scary for him. Considering the trauma he experienced, this level of trust is a meaningful milestone.
Physically, he continues to recover well from his dental surgery and treatment, and he’s getting the time and quiet environment he needs to decompress. Each day he’s learning that humans can be kind and that he is finally safe.
Rudy still has a long road ahead emotionally, but he’s already showing us that he’s trying.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared his story, and supported his recovery so far. Your kindness is giving Rudy the chance to heal at his own pace.
3/19/26 Update
We have a very special and deeply meaningful update to share about Rudy. After everything this boy has endured, Rudy is finally home. Todd, the same person who refused to give up on him from the very beginning, will be adopting Rudy. This decision comes from a place of understanding and compassion. While Rudy has made progress in foster care, his trauma runs deep. He has learned to trust \_Todd\_ in a way he hasn’t been able to with anyone else—and for Rudy, that bond is everything.
And knowing more about what Rudy went through makes that bond even more powerful. Todd shared that during the very first attempt to rescue Rudy, after he had finally been safely trapped, neighbors found him and did something unimaginable—they swung the trap around, threw it into the air, and let it crash to the ground with Rudy inside. It’s almost impossible to comprehend that level of cruelty. Everything Rudy has shown us since—the fear, the shutdown, the slow and careful steps toward trust—makes sense in the face of that trauma.
And yet… he is still trying. Because of Todd’s patience, Rudy has made meaningful progress. He allows gentle touch, he’s learning what safety feels like, and most importantly—he now has a future with someone he knows and trusts. Rudy may never be the kind of cat who is comfortable with everyone—and that’s okay. What matters is that he will never again be alone, hunted, or hurt. He is safe. He is loved. He is home.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, shared his story, and made his rescue and medical care possible. From his dental surgery to parasite treatment and ongoing support, you gave Rudy the chance not just to survive—but to begin healing.
Rudy’s story could have ended in tragedy. Because of you—it didn’t.
