About this campaign
Rusty was found abandoned in a managed colony of community cats—left behind in a rusty crate, with an empty food bowl, dry water dish, and a filthy litter box. Clearly once an indoor cat, Rusty was terrified, emaciated, and confused. He had been discarded like trash. Luckily he ended up in Adopt A Cat Foundation's care.
Rusty was finally on the path to recovery when he suddenly fell extremely ill. A volunteer noticed he was lethargic and clearly unwell—when his temperature was taken, it read 106°F, a dangerously high fever. He was immediately rushed to the emergency vet, where he is now hospitalized.
Veterinarians have discovered that his bile duct is enlarged, possibly due to triaditis, and he is also suffering from an ear infection. The full extent of his illness is not yet known, but he will remain hospitalized overnight and likely longer, with additional diagnostics and treatment needed.
The cost of Rusty's treatment is quickly adding up. Please consider donating to help Adopt A Cat Foundation give him the care he desperately needs to be healthy and live the life he deserves.
Update 7/30/25
After struggling with diarrhea, an additional diagnostic test revealed that Rusty was infected with coccidia, a GI parasite. This can make cats very sick but thankfully it is very easily treated. Rusty is on the mend with a new medication to kill the parasite.
