Sadie was found wandering alone through a cemetery before ending up at an overcrowded California shelter, where her future was heartbreakingly uncertain. With shelters overflowing, Sadie was at risk of euthanasia—not because she had given up, but because there simply wasn’t enough space and resources to give her the care she needed.
When Bichon Rescue Brigade learned about her, they couldn’t let her story end there.
After rescuing Sadie, the extent of her suffering became clear. She was carrying multiple ulcerated mammary masses—painful tumors that had been left untreated for far too long. Every day she waited, her condition became more uncomfortable and her risk of serious complications grew.
Her veterinary team has already performed the first major surgery to remove the affected mammary chain, giving Sadie the relief she desperately needed. But her journey isn’t over yet.
Because of the extent of the disease, Sadie must recover from this surgery before she can undergo a second operation to remove the remaining mammary masses. Staging the procedures gives her body the best chance to heal safely, but it also means additional veterinary care, medications, follow-up visits, and another major surgery still lie ahead.
She’s recovering in a loving foster home through Bichon Rescue Brigade, where she’s surrounded by kindness and comfort instead of fear. After surviving life on the streets, facing euthanasia, and enduring painful untreated tumors, she’s finally able to rest while her body begins to heal.

Sadie’s journey has taken an unexpected and heartbreaking turn.
After her first mammary mass removal surgery, the biopsy results confirmed grade 2 carcinoma that had spread to her lymph nodes. While her chest X-rays currently show no visible signs of cancer in her lungs, there is no guarantee that the cancer will not continue to spread.
Because of these results, Sadie’s veterinary team does not recommend putting her through another mammary mass removal surgery. Instead, they will monitor the remaining nodules and recheck her X-rays every 3–6 months, watching closely for any progression.
Sadie is now transitioning to hospice care—or, as her rescue lovingly calls it, becoming a “fur-ever friend.” She will remain with her current foster family for the rest of her life, surrounded by the comfort, stability, and love she deserves.
As part of keeping Sadie as healthy and comfortable as possible, she has also received a much-needed dental cleaning to address her poor dental health. At this stage, every decision about Sadie’s care is centered around her comfort and quality of life.
This isn’t the outcome anyone hoped for when Sadie was rescued, but her story is far from over. Now, the goal is to make every day she has ahead as happy, comfortable, and pain-free as possible which will require on-going medical care.
