Samantha came into our lives at 12 weeks old, when we attended an adoption event held by Sacramento's Fosters and Paws. She seemed calm, napping in her enclosure. As soon as we signed the paperwork, we realized...this was not actually a calm dog. We did a DNA test and discovered she's a GSD mix! She's driven, intelligent, and energetic. She's the best!

On 11/26, Sammy broke into the kitchen and ate a chocolate bar. While we were dealing with the fallout from that, X-rays showed a weird, sharp looking object in her stomach. After two failed endoscopies, doctors recommended emergency surgery, as the item may have pierced her stomach wall. It was a felting needle that was embedded in her stomach. Sage Veterinary -Concord took excellent care of her.

Sammy is an incredibly loving dog. She requires daily couch time with one of her humans, where she lies down with her butt glued to your thigh. She adores our son (especially when he's sitting in his high chair), and patiently lets him grab at her ears. She also grooms the ears of humans she loves.

We have pet insurance, but because of the maximum annual payout, we only received about $1100 back from what turned into a $15000 bill (x-rays, two endoscopies, emergency surgery). I was also recently hospitalized with pneumonia, missing a week of pay at my new job.
