About this campaign

Schultz came into our rescue as an owner surrender at the beginning of January 2019. His owner was dying of liver cancer, and no family member could take him. An advocate for the family took him very temporarily and thought she had an adopter for him. However, when she took him to the vet for dental care, he was diagnosed with a significant heart murmur. He could not have surgery until his medical condition was evaluated, and neither the adopter nor Schultz's advocate could commit to further evaluation. Our rescue was contacted and we agreed to take him into rescue.

Our vet did bloodwork which was normal, and x-rays that showed a slight enlargement of the heart. We therefore took Schultz for an echocardiagram and evaluation with a board certified cardiologist.

That evaluation showed early stage mitral valve disease, but the cardiologist happily determined that Schultz is, at this point, a good candidate for surgery. We need to get that done as soon as possible - his mouth is in awful condition and he will need 12 teeth removed.
