About this campaign
Scotch is a 18 month of Australian Shepherd - his original owners clearly have loved him dearly. Just 10 weeks ago, he had the same emergency that they did all they could to afford. Unfortunately, yesterday he came to my work (East Padden Animal Hospital) having yet another foreign body needing surgery. After the last surgery, financially his owners were unable to afford life saving care.
Interacting with Scotch yesterday (I was his technician) - he was the kindest, sweetest patient. Despite how terrible he was feeling, he’d reach out for my hand anytime I’d stop petting him. He just wanted comfort and love. As someone who works with hundreds of pets a week, I can say Scotch is definitely a special one.
Whil caring for Scotch yesterday, I would sit by his kennel giving him pets or doing treatment as needed. If I’d stop petting him, he’s reach out and pull back my hand. While picking him up from the ER this morning - I was worried he would let even know who I was since we had just met, but he walked right up to me wiggling his butt and sat on my feet, leaning in to my legs for love.
Scotch came to our hospital with symptoms of vomiting and lethargy. After diagnostics (bloodwork and radiographs) was determined he has a GI foreign body and needed surgery ASAP. Non-surgical treatments were attempted (IV fluids, medications, and enemas) but he had not shown any improvement. His owners were unable to afford any further care, so euthanasia or surrender were their only options.
As a vet tech, my income and funds are limited. I do not receive any discount for treatments on surrendered animals. I have my own crew of highly medically needed animals I care for as well. I understand deeply “we can’t save them all” but I hope we can save Scotch.
