Seven is a 2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier/Labrador mix in Fort Lauderdale, FL, who needs $2,000 for diagnosis and treatment of Babesia blood parasites.

I rescued Seven 2 months ago, since I got her she has been sick, but we didn't know. She was found as a stray, but was believed to be a bait dog - she had scrathes and broken skin all over her body, and she has multiple scars all over her face. She also at some point in her life had a litter (or two) of puppies. She has been through a lot. The last 2 months we have spent at multiple vets trying to find the cause of her anemia. She also had kennel cough, skin infections, suspected case of pyometra. Everything thrown at this dog she fights through and uses my love as her guide. She was diagnosed with Babesia which is a rare blood infection - it is treatable and she is on 15 pills a day. But even after that treatment, her red blood level continued to drop to dangerous levels. She spent 11 nights in critical care ICU - After 7 blood transfusions, we found the reason why her red blood count kept dropping. She was infested with parasites in her lower GI and colon. We had treated her twice with anti parasite medication, but the parasites were immune. We found the parasites by doing a scope procedure to look inside to see where the bleed was coming from. If we did not perform the scope, we would have never thought the cause of the bleed was parasites because we "treated" them twice. I am glad we have found the cause of the bleed, but we are waiting for her red blood level to stabilize and grow. A normal PCV is 37-55. Right now Seven is at 23, but she has been as low as 11 (twice). There were 2 times she almost had organ failure from lack of red blood/oxygen. Now is a matter of letting the new medicine do its job, so we wait to see if the levels stabilize. The 7 blood transfusions, the scope, the the hospital stay has cost over $10,000 and I need help with these finances.
