About this campaign

Shakira was given to me by my daughter in 2013. My daughter could not care for her at the time so I opened my home to her. She was so tiny, I could not believe it. Since then, we have survived many hardships together. Shakira and I have recently moved into a new apartment after three years of homelessness. We are so grateful for our new home together.

Shakira is the Mama of my home. She tells me when it is time to get up, when we need to go outside, and when it is time for dinner. She is so friendly with family and protective of new friends. Let Shakira see a squirrel! She is fast like lightening! She walks by my side without a leash, and walks with me through all of our life. She loves to have her picture taken!

The very first time I saw Shakira, I loved her big eyes! There was an instant connection which made her comfortable coming home with me and makes me smile every day. She is very special because she is the light of my life. I look into her eyes and all I see is the truth. She follows me through every hurdle and success but never complains.

A few months ago, I noticed some lumps forming on Shakira's belly. I was so alarmed as they continued to grow. I took her to SPCA and Dr. Cope determined that Shakira has 4 tumors and will need Mastectomy surgery. I have been able to pay for the surgery work up tests through the organization that housed me.

I am on a fixed income which is barely over $1000 a month. I am so grateful to be living in my apartment now and yet the responsibilities of renting take about half of my monthly income. I am a senior and work when I can but I could never cover the costs to save her life.
