What should have been a joyful story of a mother cat raising her babies has turned into a heartbreaking fight for survival.

Shammi and her five kittens came into the rescue already struggling. The tiny family has been battling severe gastrointestinal illness, parasites, dehydration, and ongoing medical concerns. Despite multiple veterinary visits, diagnostic testing, medications, supportive care, and around-the-clock monitoring, the kittens remained dangerously small for their age.

One of Shammi's precious kittens, Tinos, suddenly declined and was rushed to the emergency hospital. Despite every effort to save him, Tinos passed away wrapped in the warmth and love of his devoted mother.

Our team was devastated, but we immediately made the difficult decision to authorize a necropsy in hopes of determining what caused Tinos' death and whether there is anything more we can do to protect his siblings.

Just hours later, another kitten, Rhea, developed labored breathing and coughing and was rushed back to the emergency hospital. Doctors diagnosed pneumonia, and Rhea remains hospitalized while receiving intensive medical care.

Today, Shammi's remaining kittens—Rhea, Cora, Eros, and Nikos—are still fighting. They are receiving medications, fluids, supportive care, and close monitoring as we work tirelessly to keep them alive and uncover the cause of their illnesses.

In less than 24 hours, medical expenses for this tiny family have exceeded $7,000 and continue to climb. Emergency hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications, imaging, treatment, follow-up care, and Tinos' necropsy have created an overwhelming financial burden, but we refuse to give up on these babies.
