About this campaign

Sharlene’s story nearly ended on the streets of the Rio Grande Valley before her life could really begin. After being viciously attacked by her family’s pit bull, her owners simply dumped her outside—injured and alone—because they couldn’t afford the vet bills.

By sheer luck, a rescuer who knew a staff member at CAMO Rescue saw her, so she contacted them to take Sharlene in. The shelter staff tracked down her former owners, who heartbreakingly, wanted nothing to do with her. She had a badly broken leg that required immediate surgery. As if that wasn’t enough, her medical team discovered that she’s battling a methicillin-resistant staph infection (MRSP), which is a difficult-to-treat bacterial strain that doesn’t respond to most antibiotics.

To make matters worse, she also had tick fever, which was weakening her immune system and making it nearly impossible for her to fight off the infection on her own. She’s now on a much stronger antibiotic regimen, but it comes with risks. CAMO does bi-weekly bloodwork to monitor her organs and ensure the meds don't cause her further harm. It's a delicate balance, but they will not give up on this incredibly sweet pup.

So far, they have spent over $5,000 on her care. Help Sharlene win this fight, and consider making a donation towards her healing today. No amount is too small. Thank you!

Update 5/27/25 Sharlene is doing ok and is still not able to walk well. She is back on another 30 days of doxycycline for the tick-borne disease and had a meth-resistant staph pseudintermedius on her skin. When she was opened up for her spay, it entered her cavity, creating the cyst. The tick disease had weakened her immune system, and her liver values need to be checked every 2 weeks.
