About this campaign
Silver was rescued from the streets where her mom was trying to keep them safe and find food when we rescued them. Silver was a perfectly healthy 4 month old healthy kitten who was days away from getting spayed (and hopefully adopted) when her foster mom noticed some swelling on her right side of her mouth. We were hoping it was just going to be an abscess, but it was much worse.
After a sedated Cone Beam Scan and a biopsy, the specialist found an aggressive mass in her right mandibular ( jaw)—something so rare in a kitten as young as Silver that the specialist said he’s never seen anything like it in his 20+ years of practice. The biopsy is now pending, but the suspicion is high for cancer.
Silver is just started out in the world and was almost ready for adopted before this happened to her :( This baby still wants attention and affection. We’re not giving up on her—but we also want to prepare for the hard choices that may come once we have the biopsy results in hand.
To date, we have spent over $2k on sweet Silver and that does not include surgery (if she is a candidate for surgery once the biopsy results come back. We are a small rescue and continue to get hit with emergency after emergency - so another unexpected emergency hits us hard
UPDATE 8 22 25
We have some absolutely amazing news!!! The biopsy results came back as NO CANCER!!! It came back as Osteomyelitis (a serious (but treatable) bacterial infection). We needed to do a culture so that we can ensure that we are using the right antibiotics to make sure we knock out this infection - we should get the results back in a couple days. Silver also will need to go back in 4 weeks for another CT Scan.
