About this campaign
Sissy was only 3 months old when she was found wrapped in landscape netting out in the remote hills of California Valley. Her rescuer heard her crying and was able to carefully cut her out of the netting and get her into a local vet. Scared to death, starving and full of every parasite possible, she was given fluids, medication and sent home to recover with her rescuer. Everything was new to this little one and the world was very frightening. It didn’t take long for her rescuer to realize that there was something wrong with her back legs. Two months went by and she started to gain weight but not trust. A complete medical work up showed a condition called “Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head and Neck” was diagnosed on both back legs. Along with the malnutrition and muscle atrophy, she would never be able to walk right. It was then that her rescuer realized that she was not the right fit for Sissy due to her long work hours. She reached out to a local rescue who reached out to me and there was just no way I could turn this poor scared little girl away. If she would have ended up in a shelter the odds were stacked against her ever having a chance. When she came to me on 5/14/19 she was a complete mental and emotional mess. She would not leave her crate and was terrified of everyone and everything around her. She has made great strides in trusting and I can see improvement in her almost daily. She almost never goes in her crate anymore and has decided that sleeping in my bed at night is the place to be. She has bonded with my other dogs and to them she is now just part of the pack. She still has a lot of trust issues going on but she is trying. I know the fact that she is in constant pain due to her hip issues plays a big part in her emotional state.
Luckily, the Femoral Head Osteotomy surgery procedure can correct this problem and bring her back to 95%. I can't wait to see her blossom into the sweet girl I know she can be once she is pain free.
