My neighbors are a young couple who are animal lovers. They have an Australian cattle dog (Zuma), a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix (Sky), and a black and white mix (Lucy). Sky had puppies last week because her owners didn't have the money to get her spayed. 5 of the 8 puppies survived, but the 3 smallest died within the first 3 days.
