About this campaign

We need help. We rescued this dog from craigslist. He was being given away for free. The story is that the owner’s elderly mother died. The owners couldn’t keep the dog in their apartment. The dog’s name is snoopy. I met the owners at a gas station. It was two adult males and a young boy. They had snoopy in a metal crate in the back of their SUV. When they opened the door of the SUV, snoopy was acting like Cujo. Snarling and barking and growling viciously. So I didn’t make any eye contact and just talked to the owners for a bit, then I went and sat down on the curb. They took snoopy out of the car on a leash. He was still acting like Cujo, I remained calm. Didn’t make eye contact, occasionally talked to him softly. He walked around in the grass near where I was sitting and marked his territory and started coming over to me for brief intervals and sniffing quickly and then walking away. Still growling and barking. This went on for several minutes. Then I was able to let him sniff my hand. Our interaction became more and more lengthy. I was then able to pet him a little bit. I took the leash and took him for a brief walk and again sat down on the curb away from the owners. I repeated the same thing. Not making eye contact. Talking to him softly. I had my hand on the curb where he could approach it if he wanted to, which he did. He let me pet him. Wagged his tail a little bit. I returned to the owners. Asked them about snoopy’s history. They said he'd been with their mom his entire life. He’s about 5 years old. They said if I didn’t take him, they'd have to take him to a shelter. With his behavior, he'd likely be immediately put down. So I took him. He pretty quickly did fine with me. Acted pretty much like a normal, loving dog. Little to no growling except for an occasional brief growl and when that happened, I backed off and let him have his space and he almost immediately then wagged his tail and approached me. I was able to hold him and pet him and love on him, even giving him kisses. My husband on the other hand, no way. He has acted like Cujo each time my husband even looks at him. We’ve had him about 2 weeks. Things are getting a little bit better with my husband, he's able to talk to him and snoopy doesn’t growl or snarl or bark. The other night, I was, as always, putting him in his crate for bedtime. Everything was fine. I picked him up. Loved on him. Talked to him. He was wagging his tail and licking my face just like normal, as soon as I put him in his crate, he started growling viciously. It really scared me. I don't know what happened. I couldn’t even latch the crate because I was scared he'd bite me. I waited a few minutes, standing there holding the crate door closed. When he calmed down a little bit, I latched the crate. I walked away and waited a few minutes, making him some food. When I returned to put food in his crate, he was fine. He's a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and we need some training help! We have a trainer who's already done three training sessions and it's helping tremendously!
