About this campaign
Laura R., who is a senior herself, adopts geriatric dogs that are left behind. So when she first learned Snowy Snowball was in need, she snatched her right up.
"When little Snowy came to me, I had just lost three dogs in one year," Laura tells Waggle. "In spite of her history of neglect -- she was confined to a crate for five years -- her outgoing spirit was just the ticket to get me out of the dumps."
But Snowy needs some long-overdue dental surgery to remove eight teeth in poor condition that's been put off due to COVID-19.
"The pandemic wreaked havoc with both human and animal lives," Laura says. "Scheduling cutbacks at my vet delayed her treatment two years. Untreated gum disease can lead to heart disease and even death."
The pandemic also hit Laura right in the bank account, and she is trying to come up with the money to pay for Snowy's much-needed surgery. "I'm a senior on a fixed income, but, until now, have managed to responsibly cover all my pets' medical needs. The lockdown destroyed my supplemental pet sitting business overnight. We sure could use a visit from the Tooth Fairy!"
Laura says Snowy, who likes to dress up, has become a favorite in her neighborhood. "I love Snowy because she is up for anything, rain or shine, which is important when you live in Portland," Laura says. "Of all the dogs I have adopted, she is the funniest, most loving, and outgoing dog ever. She's especially good with children, of which there are plenty in the park. We've worked hard on good manners, nice walking, even a couple of stupid pet tricks like, "paw, other paw."
