I am a veterinary technician in an emergency hospital. A client came in who's outside-only dog had been hit by a car. The owner was undergoing chemotherapy with a poor prognosis. She couldn't afford treatment for her dog. She begged me to take her, heal her and give her a good home. I tearfully said yes

Sophie is only 10 months old and for the first time is sleeping inside a house. The first few nights, she slept on the floor under the Christmas tree. I gave her her very own dog bed, but she didn't seem to understand. After watching my other dogs, she started sleeping on it. Sophie gets along with my other dogs but really worships Mindy. She is learning from her and has to constantly be near her.

We are still learning Sophie's personality. She is very eager to learn and please. One time she kept taking ornaments off the tree and bringing them to me. I had a bare spot on the tree and a basket of ornaments on the table. She gets so excited when I come home and when she's with the other dogs.

Sophie has a broken leg, right above the carpus and growth plate. It requires pins and an external fixator. The veterinarian has given me a reasonable estimate. She came to me infested with fleas and ticks. I've started her on preventative. Prior to coming to me, she'd never seen a veterinarian before. I will be getting her fully vaccinated and spayed.
