Sparky is a one-year-old Pit Bull mix in Danielson, CT, who needs $700 for emergency surgery.

2021 has been a year of tragedy for Maria C.

Her fiance passed away due to complications from COVID. She is still testing positive for the virus and showing symptoms. Then her beloved dog she rescued, Sparky, ate something he should not have and now needs surgery at Bolton Veterinary Hospital. "I may lose both my significant other and our puppy within the month. He is all I have left at this point," Maria tells Waggle.

Maria is trying to raise the money for Sparky's life-saving surgery. She is looking forward to what she hopes are happier times in the year ahead.

"We had a great life together; dog parks, beach, river, and lakes in the summer," Maria says. "In the winter we used to play and jump in the snow mounds. We loved just spending time together and playing."

But until Sparky can get his urgent surgery, Maria is just overcome with sadness. "Sparky still looks for his daddy to come home," she says. "He a very special to us.. to me. He makes me smile during this heartbreaking time."
