Sparta is a 14-year-old Mixed Breed Cat in Ypsilanti, MI, who needs $1,300 for Cardiology Work Up and Thoracocentesis.

Sparta came to me after my parents were finally able to purchase a home for us after crashing in shelters and with family for years. He was a barn kitten who was too sweet and friendly for the barn life, so at 6 weeks old he came home with me. He was my first pet since losing my childhood home and being homeless. He brought me so much comfort, love, and joy these 14 years.

Ever since he was a kitten he has had the most loving and chill personality. He loves to cuddle and will follow you room to room to secure his place next you. He loves every person he comes in contact with, and has served as a big bro for many other pets. He has been with me through high school, college, and all the life stages since then. He’s happy anywhere as long as we’re together.

Sparta is always happy to see me. Whenever I come home I hear his collar jingling to meet me at the door. He hates closed doors, and makes it a daily routine to open every door in the house, even if it only leads to a coat closet. He is a professional sun bather and catnip aficionado. He seems to be able to sense when someone needs comfort, and seeks them out to provide it.

Sparta recently had a ear infection that caused a pillow ear. While awaiting a minor procedure to fix it, it was discovered that he had fluid in his chest and lungs. This could just be a bad respiratory infection, or it could be heart disease leading to heart failure. He is currently being treated by Blue Pearl in Southfield, MI, and I am eagerly awaiting a diagnosis and plan of action.

I had already spent $600 for Sparta’s previous vet visits for his ear, and everything else has come out of no where. I have already taken out care credit care and my parents are helping with what they can, but they are on a fixed income. I just want to do what I can for him.
