About this campaign

Sponge’s story almost ended before it truly began. This sweet, affectionate boy was living as a community cat when a kind person noticed he was in rough shape and brought him to Animal Care and Control, hoping he would get the help he needed. Instead, Sponge was placed on the euthanasia list—his medical condition simply too severe for the shelter to manage. But Sponge got a second chance.

Adopt a Cat Foundation stepped in just in time and pulled him to safety. Now, we are doing everything they can to give this loving boy the life he deserves—but he needs your help. Sponge is approximately 3 years old and, despite everything he’s been through, he is incredibly friendly and craves human affection. He truly lives up to his name—soaking up every bit of love and attention from anyone he meets.

Sadly, his little body tells a painful story. When he arrived, Sponge was covered in a sticky, gummy substance that couldn’t even be washed off. He has scabbed lesions across his head, neck, and body, likely caused by parasites and environmental allergies. He’s also suffering from painful rodent ulcers in his mouth—chronic, non-healing sores often linked to allergic or immune system issues.

In addition, Sponge urgently needs a dental procedure, and likely extractions, to address ongoing pain and infection in his mouth.

Sponge’s recovery will require ongoing, consistent medical care, including:

\- Steroids to manage inflammation - Flea control to treat underlying causes - Specialized or hypoallergenic diets - A full dental with possible extractions - Continued treatment and monitoring for his skin and oral ulcers

Despite all of this, Sponge remains unbelievably loving, trusting, and gentle. He greets people with warmth, leans into affection, and just wants to be close to someone who cares. After everything he’s endured—living on the streets, battling painful conditions, and coming dangerously close to losing his life—Sponge deserves comfort, healing, and a future filled with love.

Your donation will help cover his medical care and give him the chance to fully recover. Please help Sponge continue his journey from survival to a happy, healthy life. Every dollar brings him closer to the comfort and care he’s always deserved.

5/15/26 Update

We are so happy to share an amazing update on Sponge — and honestly, it’s hard to believe this is the same cat who was once sitting on the euthanasia list, sick, uncomfortable, and running out of time. Today, Sponge looks like an entirely different boy.

His skin and coat have improved tremendously, his painful lesions are healing, and he is feeling so much better overall. The transformation has been incredible to witness, both physically and emotionally. Most importantly, Sponge is finally getting the chance to simply enjoy being a cat.

He has officially graduated into the main cat room and has settled in beautifully. After everything he endured, seeing him confidently exploring, relaxing, and interacting with people and other cats has been such a rewarding milestone.

And one thing about Sponge has never changed: he absolutely loves people. This sweet boy is constantly looking for attention, affection, and someone to love on him. He leans into pets, follows volunteers around, and happily soaks up every bit of kindness he can get. Despite all the pain and hardship he experienced before rescue, Sponge has remained incredibly trusting and affectionate through it all.

Because of your support, Sponge was able to receive the medical care, treatment, and monitoring he desperately needed. You helped save a cat who was once considered too sick to help and gave him the opportunity to heal, thrive, and finally feel safe.

From all of us at Adopt a Cat Foundation — and especially from Sponge — thank you for believing in him. Your compassion gave this loving boy the second chance he always deserved.
