About this campaign

Meet Spumoni — a stunning nine-year-old Arizona cat with soulful eyes, a quiet strength, and a growing medical mystery that now threatens his ability to breathe. Spumoni urgently needs specialty surgery to investigate and remove a suspected tumor or polyp in his nasal cavity. The procedure — which includes a dental cleaning, possible extractions, and biopsy is very costly.

Paws 4 A Cure is stepping in to help — but we can’t do it without you.

Six years ago, Spumoni wasn’t supposed to stay. His mom was desperately searching for her missing cat, Cooper, posting flyers and working with local trappers. During that search, someone sent her a photo of another cat in need — Spumoni. He was living in a garage, bullied by other cats, overlooked and unwanted. She took him in to foster and he never left.

At first, Spumoni kept his distance. Independent. Aloof. Very much “a cat’s cat.” But slowly, he softened. He began greeting her at the door. Sitting closer. Watching over her. And then life became unimaginably hard. Serious health challenges left his mom disabled. In one devastating summer, she lost one of her best friends and her youngest dog within a day of each other. Another rescue was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Cancer surgeries followed. Emotionally and financially, it has been one of the most difficult seasons of her life.

Through all of it, Spumoni stayed. He became her shadow. Her comfort. The first to sense when she was hurting. The steady presence that made getting out of bed possible. Now he needs her — and us — to fight for him.

In the past month, Spumoni began struggling to breathe. What initially seemed like allergies or asthma quickly became something more serious.

Testing revealed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), causing a grade 4 heart murmur. But his veterinarian does not believe his heart condition is the source of his breathing distress.

Now, doctors suspect nasal polyps or even a tumor deep in his nasal cavity. To diagnose and treat the issue, Spumoni requires a specialty dental procedure that will allow veterinarians to access tissue for biopsy — and potentially remove polyps or a mass at the same time. This single surgery could provide both answers and relief. If polyps are found, they may be removed immediately. If a tumor is discovered, tissue can be biopsied to determine next steps. This procedure is his best chance at breathing comfortably again.

In addition, Spumoni will need lifelong management for his HCM, including a specialized medication called rapamycin — approximately $300 every three months — to help protect his heart.

Despite everything, Spumoni is still fighting. He eats eagerly. He plays from a lying-down position, batting toys with determination. His spirit hasn’t caught up to his diagnoses. He wants to live.

Spumoni’s mom has always shown up for the unwanted, the complicated, and the medically messy. She has never walked away from an animal in need. Now she is humbly asking for help to ensure finances are never the reason she stops searching for answers.

Your tax-deductible donation — no matter the size — brings Spumoni closer to surgery, relief, and more time with the person who loves him most.

If you can’t donate, sharing his fundraising page makes a powerful difference. Spumoni found his mom during one of the hardest chapters of her life. He stayed. He became family. He became comfort. Let’s show up for him now. Thank you for standing with Spumoni and for being part of the Paws 4 A Cure family — where no pet fights alone. 💜

5/11/26 Update

It is with broken hearts that we share that Spumoni has passed away.

Everyone who followed his story knows just how deeply loved he was. What began six years ago as a temporary foster during the search for another missing cat became a bond that changed both of their lives forever. Spumoni was never “just a cat.” He was comfort, companionship, and quiet unwavering love through some of the hardest moments his mom had ever faced.

In recent weeks, we fought alongside him as he struggled to breathe and veterinarians searched for answers. Despite his diagnoses, Spumoni continued to show us his spirit every single day — eating, playing, and seeking comfort from the person he loved most. His body was tired, but his heart never stopped trying. Sometimes, despite every effort, love is not enough to change the outcome. But love absolutely changed Spumoni’s life.

Because of his mom, Spumoni knew safety after abandonment. He knew warmth, patience, and devotion. He knew what it felt like to be chosen and cherished every single day for six beautiful years. And because of all of you, his family never had to face this battle alone.

We are endlessly grateful to everyone who donated, shared his story, sent kind words, and kept Spumoni in their thoughts. Your compassion gave his mom support during an incredibly painful time and reminded her that so many people cared about this special boy.

Please keep Spumoni’s mom in your hearts as she navigates this heartbreaking loss. The silence left behind after losing a soul animal is immeasurable. Run free, sweet Spumoni. You were deeply loved, and you always will be.
