About this campaign
We adopted Sunny from a no-kill shelter, Common Sense for Animals to be an emotional support dog for my daughter who was 15 at the time. She was having difficulty in school ever since she was bullied in 5th grade. Her doctor recommended an ESA and thought it would help my daughter a lot. She was so thrilled the day we went to pick Sunny up.
Sunny really fits the role of an ESA. She comforts you when your upset and will lick your tears away. She’s very sweet and loving. She’s a good watch dog too! Her favorite things to do are going outside and riding in the car. She has a sister named Willow who was also a rescue. They’re very much bonded and love to wrestle and play. Sunny loves bones filled with peanut butter and pizza crust!
Unfortunately, I am disabled and living on a fixed income from SSDI. My daughter is unable to work right now due to health reasons also. We are currently living with my parents and trying to get back on our feet just like many others during COVID-19 pandemic.
Sunny has several Mast Cell tumors that are malignant (cancer). One on her front leg got much bigger and is bleeding. She needs surgery right away. Our vet, Dr. Robert R. Blease from the Animal Health Center and Common Sense For Animals did a biopsy and blood work. He said unfortunately she will have to lose her leg in order to get all of the tumor. She also needs the other tumors removed.
Sunny is a little anxious at times and wants to get close to you if she’s scared. She is afraid of thunder and fireworks, but we just snuggle together when that happens.
Once we got Willow, Sunny soon learned how to catch a treat in her mouth by watching Willow do it. She also learned to play more and loves fetching the tennis ball.
