About this campaign
Sunny’s rescue journey began when he was trapped at a local car dealership and brought to safety through Community Cat Medical Fund. After his neuter appointment, his foster noticed something was very wrong—his temperature had spiked to 104°. With no visible signs of infection but a dangerously high fever, Sunny was rushed to the emergency vet late at night for fluids and pain relief.
By the next morning, his fever was gone, but we were told to keep a close watch. A week later, Sunny’s foster noticed a troubling change—he wasn’t himself. Concerned, we brought him back to the vet. Initial bloodwork looked normal, but his symptoms persisted. X-rays revealed something alarming: Sunny’s spleen was enlarged. To get answers, we approved further testing.
The results confirmed a difficult diagnosis: mycoplasma hemofelis, a parasitic infection that attacks the red blood cells. Our vet explained that this condition had likely been brewing quietly, and the stress of surgery triggered it to the surface. Sunny has now begun a 30-day treatment plan with Doxycycline, gabapentin, and steroids.
With proper care, he has a strong chance to recover—but the unexpected emergency visits, diagnostics, and ongoing medications have created a heavy financial strain for our small, volunteer-run organization.
Update 10/1/5
Sunny is doing really well! He has been getting his daily medications and has been bright and alert. We have a follow-up appointment with the vet coming up where we will see if we can taper him off his medications.
