About this campaign
I rescued Tater at 8 weeks old, at the time I was recovering from a rare blood disease called Guillainbarre Syndrome, my doctor recommended maybe a service animal due to struggling with memory loss. I started training tater immediately teaching him the scents of my medications and letting him smell my mouth at different times. He was able to tell me /remind me to take my medications.
This little guy was an amazing blessing, he saved my life in so many ways and now I need help saving his. He was then certified in Dallas as a service dog and so smart that he was certified off leash. It was just us two for a year until I found my now wife. Tater is more than a pet, he is like a child. He is so loving and special.
I’m disabled and on a fixed income and with the Covid-19 pandemic my wife’s hours have been cut making staying afloat hard. Tater has brought so much joy to so many people and again has saved my life many times, Keeping him alive and well as long as possible is so important.
About 3 months ago, Tater was diagnosed with type 1 canine diabetes and has been put on Vetsulin insulin shots twice a day as well as a prescription food. He has to visit the vet once a week for glucose curve test. The fees have quickly added up with his visits being between $80-$180 each week and medications being about $275 a month which includes the prescription foods.
He is my best friend, he has a certain ball that he loves to play with and loves treat time! Tater loves going for walks and hikes but also loves to just sit and cuddle. Due to my health improving and his health declining, I have since retired him as a service dog and he is now just one of our kids.
