Three Legged Hiccup Needs Continued Veterinary Care

Hiccup greets the day with his whole body. Toss a squeaky toy, and he's off across the room, bringing it back again and again with a look that says let's go one more time. When the fun winds down, you'll find him stretched out on the couch, as close to his people as he can get. He's smart, affectionate, and always ready for whatever comes next.

He also happens to have three legs, and he's looking for a new loving home.

A year ago, this three-year-old Labrador Retriever, American Pit Bull Terrier, and Mastiff mix arrived at a veterinary hospital with serious injuries that ultimately left him without one of his front legs. His recovery took an entire year, and his family stayed with him through every week of it, giving him the time and care he needed to heal.

Today, Hiccup is a healthy, playful, affectionate 60-pound boy who hasn't let three legs slow him down. He is house trained, crate trained, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. He knows ten different cues, including sit, stay, wait, touch, leave it, drop it, crate, stop, find it, and toy, and he lights up the moment it's time to train.

Being ready for a new home doesn't always mean finding one quickly.

Dogs like Hiccup often wait much longer simply because of their size, breed, or disability. He is safe and loved right where he is while he waits, and his family continues providing everything he needs to stay healthy, comfortable, and supported.

And Hiccup's ongoing care adds up quickly.

He takes several medications and supplements, including Solliquin, Apoquel, pregabalin, fluoxetine, fish oil, and monthly preventatives. He eats Hill's Sensitive Skin and Stomach food and attends regular follow-up appointments with a behaviorist.

His veterinary needs include routine wellness care, bloodwork, fecal testing, vaccinations, and treatment to keep his ears healthy. Altogether, his ongoing expenses average approximately $370 every month. With his recent and upcoming veterinary care included, approximately $1,780 will go toward Hiccup's care over just 90 days.
