Hit by a Car and Left to Suffer — Tito Needs Us

This sweet community dog was brought to our hospital after being found with a devastating open fracture that had been left untreated for days. His wound was severely contaminated and infected, with extensive tissue damage from the trauma. Every moment Tito spent suffering alone on the streets meant more pain, more infection, and less chance of saving his leg.

Sadly, cases like Tito’s are far too common in Ecuador. Street dogs are often hit by vehicles, and many drivers simply keep going — leaving injured animals behind to suffer without help, terrified and in agony. Tito was one of the lucky ones. Someone finally stopped, cared enough to help, and rushed him to us before it was too late.

After carefully evaluating Tito’s injuries, our veterinary team determined that amputation is the only humane option. The damage to his leg is too severe, and without surgery, the infection could continue to spread and become life-threatening. While losing a leg is heartbreaking, dogs like Tito are incredibly resilient, and amputation will give him something he does not have right now: the chance to live without constant pain.

Tito will require hospitalization for several days so we can manage his infection, provide pain control, monitor his recovery, and perform the amputation surgery safely. His medical care is expected to cost approximately $750.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, Tito received the lifesaving surgery and medical care he desperately needed. After undergoing his leg amputation and spending time recovering under the care of our veterinary team, Tito healed beautifully.

Like so many resilient dogs, Tito quickly adapted to life on three legs. Once free from the pain and infection that had plagued him for so long, his sweet personality began to shine. It was clear that losing a leg didn't slow him down—it gave him the chance to finally live comfortably.

And now for the happiest update of all... Tito has been adopted!
