Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption got an urgent message from a Texas shelter. The facility was full, and it would have to start euthanizing dogs for space reasons.
"They sent us a picture of this beautiful, young Labrador-Golden Retriever mix. Our hearts melted. How could they kill such an amazing dog? It's heartbreaking what happens in these shelters. He was a must-save," the rescue tells Waggle.
Once Tommy went to his foster home, his foster mom made a horrifying discovery: Tommy's abdomen was covered in puncture wounds. His skin was swollen, gaping, oozing, and infected.
The rescue contacted the shelter. It said Tommy had been attacked by another dog two weeks before! He received no medical attention or care, so his wounds festered and worsened.
Tommy's foster mom had to race him to the animal hospital for urgent care. It's sad to think he sat in the shelter in pain and was about to be led to his death! All due to no fault of his own. Tommy will also need donations to help him get all his vaccines, microchip, neutered, and medical care.
The last few months have been a whirlwind of crazy for Lucky Lab and many rescues. Dogs are flooding into shelters, and rescues are all trying to save as many as possible. Donations are down, likely due to the economy. They want to give a massive shout-out, and heartfelt thank you to anyone who gives to Tommy's campaign.
