Tonka is a 10-year-old Husky in Hawthorne, NJ, who needs $2,000 for Severely Emaciated, Heartworm Positive, Advanced Dental Disease, and Matted Fur.

Tonka has lived a lifetime of neglect before finding himself an ailing stray dog in a crowded shelter. That's when Pathway and Piney Mountain Foster Care stepped in.

This gorgeous senior husky should have been spoiled in his golden years, but instead, he is emaciated at just 40 pounds under his filthy fur. We fought to get Tonka to NJ to get him the extensive diagnostics he desperately needed!

Tonka’s schedule was lined up with medical consults at three separate hospital – that included an echocardiogram, cardiologist consult, abdominal ultrasound, dental exam and extensive diagnostic testing.

We knew Tonka was in rough shape, but seeing him shaved down and hearing his full medical results was shocking. He is severely emaciated with a body score of 2 out of 9.

Tonka is heartworm positive and has horrible dental disease. Both are severe and advanced. He is also suffering from painful ear infections and arthritis.

Tonka’s fur was so horrible that he had to be fully shaven – it was thin, matted and soaked in urine and feces. Tonka has burns on his stomach from prolonged urine contact and the matts on his hind legs prevented him from walking normally.

Tonka only knows how to LOVE. He passed a temperament test with flying colors, rolling over for belly rubs during the most uncomfortable part of testing for most dogs! The long-term neglect Tonka has endured has broken his body, but not his spirit, as he greets you with joy and excitement.

While it is hard for us to see, he truly feels like a new man today and has hope for the future.
