About this campaign
Tre lost his leg after being stuck in a metal leg hold trap for days.
Please help us, at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge save our defenseless community cats!
Tre was horrifically found with his leg stuck in a metal leg hold trap. He had been stuck in place, attempting to pull his leg loose, for long enough that the flesh in the area is necrotic and his bones are exposed through large, gaping holes in his skin. Because the injury to Tre’s leg is so severe, there is no choice but to amputate his leg.
Leg hold traps, illegal in the state of New Jersey, are made of a metal foot plate and curved jaws powered by strong springs and anchored to the ground. Once an animal triggers the trap, it immobilizes them with the spikes of the jaws and can cause severe damage, particularly as the animal struggles.
Given the level of damage and necrotic tissue on Tre’s leg, he was helplessly trapped for a long period of time before being discovered.
Please consider a donation so that we can continue to save vulnerable community cats, like Tre. RBARI’s Community Cats program reaches into our community to provide emergency medical care, spay / neuter and rescue relief to local cats in desperate need.
