Trixie is a 14-year-old Maltese/Shitzu Mix in Liberty Township, OH, who needs $1,000 for Surgical Abnormal Mass Removal & Tooth Extractions.

We got Trixie when she was 3 years old. We were looking for a small shelter dog, and thought we found one, but were disappointed when it didn't work out. The next day, Trixie's owner listed her on Craigslist. The kids and I rushed over to meet her, and immediately fell in love with her good nature.

Trixie was crate and potty trained, when we adopted her, so she usually sleeps in her crate. Sometimes, if she's not feeling good or "out of her element" she will want to sleep next to one of us. She loves playing fetch with everyone, but most of all, her daddy. She is very sweet with both of the kids, and trusts them with her life. She lives for treats, and likes to cuddle and give kisses.

We have struggled with the decision due to advanced age, but she is otherwise a healthy, active senior dog. It seems unfair not to give her a longer life. With college bills, medical bills and Covid job losses, our family has been hit a little harder than normal this summer.

Trixie developed a large lump on her head that began growing rapidly & oozing blood. Dr. Steinbeck at Pfister Animal Hospital aspirated the mass & saw abnormal cells. She cannot confirm malignancy without pathology, but if so, surgery is usually curative. Either way, it is causing pain, infection & is too large to treat w/o anesthesia. A few rotten teeth causing infection with also be extracted.

Trixie is a people-loving dog. She is very friendly to everyone she meets. It takes little time for her to warm up to new people. She is also a very easy-going girl; she never complains, even when she is in pain or being poked and prodded by the vet or groomer. Like most dogs, she's very curious and loves to go outside for walks and explore new places.
