About this campaign

When Waffles was found, she was lying in the grass unable to move. She screamed in pain when someone tried to touch her. No one knows how long she had been there — vulnerable, suffering, and alone. Her fur was so severely matted that rescuers couldn’t even tell if she was a boy or a girl at first. Once she was brought to safety, they learned she was a young female dog, only about two years old. Her rescuers named her Waffles — a name that represents warmth, happiness, and the kind of peaceful life she has likely never known. And it’s exactly the life she deserves.

Waffles was rushed to the emergency vet hospital, where she has remained hospitalized all week receiving intensive care. When she arrived, her condition was so critical that she required an emergency blood transfusion just to stabilize her.

Veterinarians quickly discovered that Waffles is battling multiple serious medical issues:

\- Severe anemia - Low protein and low albumin levels - Hookworms and roundworms - Heartworm disease - Ascites (fluid buildup in her abdomen)

X-rays thankfully showed no broken bones or obstructions, but her body is still fighting hard to recover. Because her protein levels are so low, fluid continues to accumulate in her abdomen, causing painful swelling. Veterinarians have had to drain the fluid from her belly while treating her with medications and supportive care. Doctors suspect there may also be an underlying intestinal condition causing protein loss, but more advanced diagnostics like biopsies are too risky right now due to how fragile she is. For the moment, the veterinary team is focused on stabilizing her and supporting her body while she fights to survive.

Right now, Waffles is stable — but she is not out of the woods. Her care is intensive and constant. Hospitalization, transfusions, medications, testing, and ongoing monitoring are all necessary to give her a chance at recovery. Through it all, Waffles continues to fight.

ThisIsHouston is committed to giving this sweet girl every possible chance to make it through this and finally experience the love and comfort she has been missing for so long. But lifesaving care like this comes at a cost.

Your donation will help cover:

• Emergency hospitalization and monitoring

• Blood transfusion and critical care

• Diagnostic testing and imaging

• Treatment for parasites and heartworms

• Medications and supportive therapy

• Ongoing care as doctors work to stabilize her condition

Waffles is only two years old. She should be playing, running, and enjoying life — not fighting for survival in a hospital. But she’s fighting. And we’re fighting right alongside her. If you can, please consider donating to help give Waffles the care she desperately needs. Every contribution brings her one step closer to healing — and to the happy life her name promises.
