About this campaign
Watney is a 9 year old bernedoodle who lives with my parents and me. We got her as a puppy back in 2016. I've wanted a dog for as long as I can remember and used to draw them into family portraits as a kid, so her arrival was a real dream come true.
One week after a regular check-up, Watney experienced a rapid decline. Both left legs started slipping out from under her, she got stuck in corners, and had trouble picking herself up. After taking her to a neurologist, they believe it could be from a stroke, inflammation, or a mass in her brain. She's on a palliative dose of prednisone but needs a scan to make a diagnosis and get real treatment.
Watney is the perfect cozy companion. She is very sweet, shy with strangers, bold with chasing squirrels, and very food motivated. We take the exact same hypothyroid medication, which I think is hilarious and also kind of destiny. She has brought so much joy to my family and has made weathering rough times, like the pandemic, so much easier.
I'm currently underemployed, and so are my parents. We were quoted $7,000 for an MRI alone, which is hard to afford, and doesn't leave us a budget for the surgery she might need after. I've had nightmares about this, and I know there is more time meant for us together.
