BRUTALLY SHOT, WOLFIE’S BODY IS RIDDLED WITH BUCKSHOT

The Lawrence Shelter reached out to us asking for assistance with Wolfie, thought to be the victim of a vicious coyote attack. He had multiple wounds, bleeding, swollen, and unable to bear weight on his back leg.

We rushed him to Proctorville Animal Clinic where we learned the cause was more violent than we could have imagined; XRY’s revealed his entire back flank, leg, scrotum, and tail are filled with buckshot. Wolfie was the victim of an intentional act of violence meant to inflict immense pain.

As shelter workers, vet staff, and rescuers, we too often see signs of neglect or cruelty. We are conditioned to put that aside focusing on medical care and a brighter future, but seeing Wolfie in this state reduced us all to tears. We cannot fathom in any part of of our hearts or souls how someone could be this sinister and cruel. Despite his tremendous pain, Wolfie has only offered a tail wag.

Wolfie is Erlicchea, Lyme, and anasplasmosis positive and has multiple entry wounds. His biggest risk is infection and the biggest obstacle is pain control. He requires intensive hospitalization, IV fluids, IV pain meds, IV antibiotics and, although his back leg does not appear to be broken, it will need to be monitored.

We will do everything in our power to help Wolfie heal physically, and mentally. He is tough for us…our hearts are hurting; but we will somehow pull it together to offer him gentle caresses, promising a better future.
